Sarah asked:
I just started roller derby and in 3 weeks I have to take and pass the WFTDA skills test. The only part I’m worried about is doing 5 laps in under a min. I have done 4.5 laps in a min.
What is the trick to being fast on skates? I’m already low and swing my arms. What else?

Try leaning forward and putting your weight on your front foot.
shed excess weight =P
there isn’t anything that you are doing wrong as far as i can tell. All I can say is practise, practise, practise!
Good Luck.
Work out! I can’t keep up at practice if i don’t work out at home…Don’t forget to turn your left shoulder back on turns…A lot of fresh meat in our league make the mistake of holding to tight o the turns and not crossing over in and out of the turns…Our fastest jammer crosses over the whole track..Try it and make sure you get a good warm up before skills…Good luck…check out this website for off skates work out
You’ll be sore but you will also be amazed at how far you’ll progress if you keep up with it.
